Magnesium-Aluminum Compound
Antacid
Indication: For the treatment and relief of symptoms of hyperacidity related gastrointestinal disorders such as peptic ulcer, gastritis, duodenitis, gastroesophageal reflux/heartburn.
Contraindications: Alkalosis, hypermagnesemia, where distention may be due to partial or complete obstruction; not recommended for severely debilitated patients or those with impaired renal function.
Warnings: Do not take more than 8 tablets or 40 ml during a 24 hour period. Do not take the maximum dosage for more than 2 weeks or do not take if you suffer from kidney disease, except under your physician’s advice. Antacids can interfere with the absorption of iron preparations and/or tetracyclines.
Precautions: Magnesium salts, in the presence of renal insufficiency may cause CNS depression. Aluminum hydroxide, in the presence of low phosphorus diets, may cause phosphorus deficiency. Aluminum salts tend to cause constipation. Do not administer concomitantly with tetracycline antibiotics or iron preparations.
Overdosage: Treatment: Symptomatic.
Dosage: 5 to 10 ml or 1 to 2 tablets 4 times daily, 20 to 60 minutes after meals and at night or as directed by the physician.
Supplied: Suspension: Each 5 ml of white, peppermint flavored suspension with a milky appearance contains: aluminum hydroxide (equivalent to dried gel) 600 mg and magnesium hydroxide 300 mg. Energy: 20 kJ (4.7 kcal). Sodium: < 1mmol (1 mg)/5 ml. Sucrose- and tartrazine-free. Bottles of 350 ml and 100 ml and 100 ml Hospital Pack.
Tablets: Round, white, mint flavored tablet contains: aluminum hydroxide (equivalent to dried gel) 600 mg and magnesium hydroxide 300 mg. Energy: 7.5 kJ (1.8kcal).
Sodium:<1 mmol (1 mg)/tablet. Sucrose- and tatrazine-free. Boxes of 50.
